This is a very contagious, superficial skin infection (occurs on the outer layers of the skin). It is caused by bacteria, e.g. Staphylococcus aureus and/or Streptococcus pyogenes.  Symptoms of impetigo This condition causes the characteristic honey coloured or golden crusts on the skin. This can be on the face or on the hands.
